About Us Mount Calvary Lutheran Church is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and is located in Erie, PA, in the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod. It is one of seven churches involved in the Erie Lutheran Parish and is also a Reconciling in Christ congregation.
As a part of its mission, Mount Calvary provides regular worship services, offers Christian education to children and adults, administers the sacraments, and ministers to members' needs in joy and sorrow. In addition to serving its' members, Mt. Calvary reaches into the community at large, offering assistance to groups through its social ministry and to individuals through counseling and pastoral care. Evangelical outreach offers the Gospel of Christ to those in spiritual need. Through its benevolence and outreach programs, it assists directly and indirectly in work of the Lutheran Church for missions and social justice. We participate in the community through school partnerships with both Perry and Grover Cleveland, providing snack and cookouts for the people of Community Shelter Services, serving at Holy Trinity Pasta and Soup Kitchen, gathering Christmas presents for families associated with Bethesda, and more. If you have any questions, we'd love to talk with you! |
Who We Are |
We at Mount Calvary are a fun-loving, welcoming group, who are involved in many activities. We have one worship service at 9:15 on Sunday morning. Adult Sunday School during the school year is at 8:30, mid-week Bible study is on Wednesdays at 10AM, and a youth group participates in various activities including the Crop Walk and the National Youth Gathering. We enjoy fellowship together - we have potlucks and soup suppers throughout the year, as well as other informal times to learn and grow together. We love kids! We have Sunday School and Confirmation classes as well as a prayground and nursery available for the youngest of our members. We love having families worship with us, and enjoy hearing their participation in the service, too! We welcome anyone who is searching for a place to belong.
No matter your past, who you love, what you look like... you will find a place here. |
Reconciling
|
Our congregation voted on July 18, 2021 to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation. That means we are specifically welcoming and affirming of our LGBTQIA+ community. Our welcome statement is: "In Christ's body, there is a place for you. We invite and welcome you to join us, no matter your social status, race, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic position, physical and mental abilities, or where you are on your faith journey. We are a community committed to the work of racial equity, bringing justice for God's beloveds. You are accepted and affirmed just as you are, with all you differences and all your gifts, a unique child of God. Galatians 3:28 says 'There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female, for all of us are one in Christ Jesus'"

Our History
|
Mount Calvary was founded in 1929, and later, an addition was put on to expand the worship space. Now, we offer space enough for the church activities, plus sharing our space with those in the community. A Boy Scout Troop and Over Eaters Anonymous meet here regularly, and we welcome our space to be used for weddings and other events. We recently celebrated our 90th Anniversary!
